This is an account of the period in English history that determined the course of the English monarchy and set in motion the forces that ultimately led to parliamentary government. Aimed at students and general readers interested in British Medieval and constitutional history. Henry came to power in 1216 aged just nine. The crown was in great danger. It faced financial ruin, a rampaging French prince and enormous power in the hands of the magnates. The English Kingdom was on the edge of disintegrating into a series of principalities with the king as primus inter pares. However, by the time Henry came of age in 1227 his rule was unchallenged. The structure of government had been rebuilt and the Crown's resources reassembled. Moreover, it was in this period that Magna Carta came to be accepted by both King and barons as fundamental to the constitution. It embodied notions of royal restraint and baronial consent which came to form a permanent part of practical political thinking.

then this book is a great place for those well trodden along this path
By Sir Butternut Longsword
If u r fascinated by medieval kingship, when a man can be attributed god given authority and can rule a vast empire down to the most minute detail, then this book is a great place for those well trodden along this path. I wouldn't advise this as a first step however.
Henry III is not as well known as his famous uncle, richard the lionhearted or his father john lackland, or his son Edward the first, but he should be. His life and times were of fascinating turbulence. From his minority, the focus of this book (under the regency of William Marshal no less) to the great battle that resulted in his brother in law Simon De montfort death. Even the magna carta, forced down his father's throat, was for the first time truly hammered out under reign along with his sons.
Carpenter began this to be another member of the English monarch series but never quite made it through, in the end focusing on his minority.
Overall, for Henry III, powickes King Henry III and the lord Edward is your absolute place fo go. More recently, There aren't many options when it comes, other than the recent Gothic king by John Paul davies and Thomas Costains Magnificent Century, you are out of luck. For the newly inducted or those seeking a narrative history, the mentioned options are better, but for those well studied in this marvelous field, here is another eye opening look into a strange world.
